SIOUX FALLS, SD—Faithful to USF’s mission of serving God and humankind in the world, the University has a long-standing tradition of encouraging students to integrate service into their everyday lives. To exemplify this spirit of service, USF devotes one day during the academic year—dubbed ‘Culture for Service Day’—to serving in the community. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 25.

“Culture for Service is an essential component of our campus and a wonderful opportunity to come together and support the community that USF is at the heart of,” said Shantay Waldron, a junior elementary education major and president of first-year student experience. “Culture for Service Day is one of the many possibilities that USF offers its students, to serve God through our hands and honor what He has given and done for us.”

On September 25, nearly 450 faculty, staff and students will serve the Sioux Falls community in partnership with over 20 local organizations including:
• Alpha Center
• Anne Sullivan Elementary School
• Berakhah House
• Bishop Dudley - Center for Families
• Connection Church
• DakotAbilities
• First Baptist Sioux Falls
• Good News Church
• Good Samaritan Society
• Hope Haven International Ministries
• John F. Kennedy Elementary School
• Laura B. Anderson Elementary School

“Service is an important component of what we teach and live out every day at USF, and Culture for Service Day accurately fits both our mission and the definition of who we are as an institution,” said Andrew Porteous, director of student life and housing. “It’s not only our opportunity to give back to a community that supports us so significantly, but we also hope it inspires our students to value and emulate servant leadership now and beyond their time at USF.”
