Here’s how a career switch to teaching changed Skye’s life
Skye Bork, Social Studies and Publications teacher at Bishop O’Gorman High School, didn’t start her career as an educator; after earning her bachelor’s degree she entered the marketing and advertising field. Eventually she realized the career path she had chosen didn’t offer the personal fulfillment she was seeking.
We asked Skye Bork to share with us what it was like to change careers by attending the University of Sioux Falls Continuing & Professional Studies Master of Education program:
I had been coaching kids in gymnastics and really enjoyed finding new ways of teaching each one. I realized that I would be happier in a career where I could help children reach their potential.
Naturally, I was a little intimidated by the idea of returning to school and all that would entail, but the University of Sioux Falls Master of Education in Teaching program made it easy with flexible schedules, a convenient location and the fact that with a bachelor’s degree in a non-teaching major I could still earn my Master of Education degree in just two years!
The professors at USF were amazing and extremely supportive. When I was student teaching I received great feedback and advice that gave me the confidence to lead my own classrooms.
For me, education is the career that offers much more than just a paycheck. Helping students grow and seeing them have the “light bulb” moment makes my work worth it.
Being a teacher can be very challenging and emotionally draining, but if it means something to you to make a real impact in the lives of children and shape the leaders of tomorrow, then I say go for it! And I would definitely recommend you consider the University of Sioux Falls Continuing & ProfessionalStudies Master of Education program for their supportive and collaborative approach.
