Megan Fredrickson

Assistant Professor, Nursing

Professor Fredrickson attended the University of Sioux Falls from 2004-2008 where she graduated with honors and Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Exercise Science. She worked as a Wellness Coordinator at Sanford Wellness to educate members in fitness classes and personal wellness goals. She attended the University of South Dakota Sioux Falls campus from 2010-2012 to attain her A.S. in Nursing. Upon receipt of her RN in June 2012, she worked as a nurse on the postpartum/women's surgical unit at Avera McKennan Hospital. In her time at Avera, she held roles of staff RN, charge nurse, and newborn nursery nurse. She participated in nursing governance and successfully completed the Avera Emerging Leaders Course. Professor Fredrickson became one of the first Certified Lactation Counselors on her unit to better support and educate her patients about breastfeeding. In 2016, Professor Fredrickson graduated with her M.S.N. in Nursing Education. She served as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for Presentation College in the Spring of 2017. In March 2017, she started working (and continues to work) at Sanford USD Medical Center as a Nurse Educator to support a variety of hospital units. During her time at Sanford, Professor Fredrickson successfully attained her Nurse Professional Development Board Certification through AACN as well as her Certified Breastfeeding Counselor certification through AACN. Professor Fredrickson served on many committees at Sanford including serving as the Speaker of the Nursing Senate (nursing governance structure), which afforded her the opportunity to actively participate in the Sanford Enterprise Nursing Senate. During her time at Sanford, she attained nominations for three nursing awards and was the recipient of the Spirit of Nursing Leadership Nurse Award in 2022. Professor Fredrickson completed the Sanford Leadership Commons Course in January of 2023. In July 2023, Professor Fredrickson started the role of Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Sioux Falls where she specailizes in Maternal Newborn nursing and provides education in Fundamentals of Nursing and Nursing Leadership.
