Prior to joining the USF faculty in 2006, Dr. DeHoogh-Kliewer taught in elementary through senior high settings for eleven years, leading high school choir tours to Washington, D.C., New York City, Denver and San Francisco. His choirs have received state, regional and national invitations and have performed at various music conventions.

He is married to Michelle, a counselor at USF, and they have two daughters, Hannah and Emma.
